Why does OpenInvest need to verify my identity?

OpenInvest and our partners at Tradier and Apex require verification of your identity as part of the federal Know Your Customer guidelines (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Know_your_customer). These guidelines, created as part of the 2001 patriot act, are intended to prevent money laundering and use of financial tools by criminal or terrorist organizations. You may receive an email from Tradier requesting that you verify some part of your identity, such as your address or date of birth. If you have any questions or concerns about sending that documentation, just reach out to our support team at support@openinvest.co, and we’ll help you upload it securely.
